Manchester City have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with defender Ruben Dias to extend his stay at the Etihad.

The 28-year-old's current terms expire in 2027, but state an agreement has been reached between Dias and City to sign a new contract. It is not yet known how long the Portugal international's new deal will run for, however.

Dias swapped Benfica for City in 2020 for an initial £62 million ($82m) and so far he has proven to be an excellent acquisition, helping them win Premier League titles, domestic cups and the Champions League. Ergo, this contract news for the centre-back is a big boost for City as they try to become a force in the Premier League and Europe again next season.

WHAT NEXT?
If Dias extends his City stay, he would follow team-mate Erling Haaland, who penned a nine-and-a-half-year deal in January. Moreover, Guardiola's side have signed Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, James Trafford, Marcus Bettinelli and Sverre Nypan this summer as they prepare for the new season.
